I was able to register for classes and pick my electives for school on Wednesday this week. As it currently stands, I only have one “early” day. (By early I mean 8:10am start time, which really is like a vacation from my usual 5:45am wake ups for my 7am to 7pm day shifts.) I will be commuting to Oshawa, but an hour drive will not damper my enthusiasm as it feels so worth it to me in the long run.
My first semester classes include: Communications, Photography for Integrated Media, Web Design I, Social Media and Society, and Typography and Colour Theory. I smile just looking at the course list. They are all things I want to learn about! All things I have some prior knowledge of and want to learn even more! When I went through college the first time I had no interest in any of my classes, the only class I half enjoyed was my Introduction to Computing class where I scored my best grade of 96. If only I realized then what my true calling was.
I am hoping to get a transfer credit towards Communications so I don’t have to take it again. (It’s a pretty standard program across most college programs so I took it when I was working towards my nursing diploma.) As much fun as it is to learn about verbs and nouns for the millionth time (and its not like it would hurt my GPA) I just am really not interested in taking it one more time.
Photography for Integrated Media should be interesting. Although I don’t expect I’ll need to use it on a day to day basis I am still excited to learn about it. I like photography, so it will be a fun skill to improve upon.
Web Design I will be the essential class. Every semester I take another level of the course and build upon previous skills.
Social Media and Society is my elective, which seemed like the most course related of the electives available. (Although Astronomy would have been fun and interesting to take too!)
Typography and Colour Theory I am really looking forward to as its something I work a lot with but probably know the least about.
In other news I am presently working towards finishing coding the layout for this website. I have a lot of ideas in my head but I really want to try to key it simple and focused on the content (my writing) rather then a gimmicky design. However, I still want people to see my capabilities as a designer when they view my blog! It is definitely a balancing act, and hopefully when I get into that classroom I will learn better how to maintain that balance.
